Kelly Gelsomino
Dear Students, Since we will be working together for an entire school year, I think it is important you know a little bit about me. I grew up in England until I was eleven years old, then I moved to the United States. I have lived in San Jose, California; Seattle, Washington; San Francisco, California; and of course San Diego, California. I earned my bachelors degree (BA) from the University of California San Diego (UCSD). After graduating from UCSD, I continued my education and received two teaching credentials and later a Master’s Degree. This is my eighth year teaching at Monroe Clark Middle School, and my seventh year teaching 6th grade. I have a lot of Trojan pride and plan to be very involved in making the whole school understand that 6th grade is the place to be!
This year, I will be teaching the 6th grade English Language Arts and Social Studies standards to prepare you for success in high school. In English, all sixth graders will be writing fictional narratives, research reports, responses to literature, persuasive compositions, and poetry. You will also read a variety of narrative and informational texts this year, and deliver multiple oral presentations. In Social Studies, you will be learning about the ancient civilizations of Early Man, Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, China, Greece, and Rome and the effects they have on us today. Please be prepared to read, write, speak, and listen every single day. Because the sixth grade standards are very demanding, it will be necessary for you to be organized, responsible, and committed to completing all of your assignment. Your success depends on your effort. I have extremely high expectations for each one of you. I expect you to follow all school wide rules and the Clark Code every day. I expect you to be on time, in uniform every day. I expect you to follow all classroom rules and procedures without questioning me. I expect you to respect me, your peers, the classroom, and yourself. I expect you to complete all assigned work to the best of your ability and on time. I expect you to be polite and positive towards yourself and others. I will not allow any student in this room to stop me from teaching and I will not allow any student to stop you from learning. I will not tolerate disruptions, disrespect, laziness, put-downs, negativity, or drama in the classroom. This room is a safe place for each one of us to teach and learn. I respect and care for each one of you and know that you will live up to my expectations. I look forward to helping you become more successful! Sincerely, Mrs. Gelsomino
