ABOUT OUR SCHOOL AND LEARNING COMMUNITY
Monroe Clark Middle school is part of the City Heights Collaborative, a consortium of three schools (Rosa Parks Elementary, Monroe Clark Middle School, and Hoover High School), San Diego State University, San Diego Education Association and Price Entities.
The three major goals of our collaboration are:
- Improving literacy and increasing educational achievement,
- Identifying and addressing barriers to academic success by developing health, social, community and family based solutions, and
- Enhancing the quality, and quantity of teachers.
Monroe Clark is an inner-city neighborhood that is ethnically diverse, 74 percent of the student population is Hispanic, 11.1 percent is African American, 10.4 percent is Indochinese and 3.1 percent is white. There has been a continual growth of achievement as indicated in Academic Performance Index (API) of 489 in 1999 to 665 in 2004. Although the school has shown growth in student achievement, our Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) targets have not been met. Our newly revised mission is focused on supporting our students and families to improve student achievement.
